There are architectural ties in life that are hard to quantify in money; we have tried to express this in figures. The building was once the home of Miklós Ráby, who, due to his imprisonment years, is known as Rab Ráby in the novel by József Jókai, based on real historical foundations. Miklós Ráby (circa 1749-1810) was a royal commissioner of noble descent born in Szentendre in the 18th century. He served Emperor Joseph II and was tasked with investigating abuses, corruption, and injustices in Hungarian cities. He also investigated in Szentendre, where he sought to reveal the illegal affairs of local leaders, but he faced resistance. His work earned him many enemies, leading to his imprisonment. His life exemplifies how difficult it was to enforce the ideas of enlightened absolutism in practice against local powers. Jókai Mór's novel 'Rab Ráby' was published in 1879 and tells the story of a justice-seeking royal commissioner, Miklós Ráby, against the corrupt authorities of Szentendre.
